More about Chef Naseema Kashefi and her family:

Mom, Naseema, and Dad, Bashir, with their three-year-old girl and baby boy. They arrived in March 2017 from Afghanistan when their daughter was two and Naseema was six weeks pregnant with their son. Bashir served as an interpreter for the U.S. military in Afghanistan, and for that reason his family was granted SIV (Special Immigration Visas) which is a type of refugee who served our military in Iraq or Afghanistan. Bashir works as a security guard and they reside in Orange County. Naseema is an incredible chef and loves preparing traditional Afghan dishes. Her specialty is Mantu, which can best be described as Afghan wontons.

Most recently, Naseema prepared a staff lunch at CAA in honor of World Refugee Day. Naseema can't wait to share her cooking with the guests at this dinner and Bashir is excited to speak with everyone about their family's experience and how people can help families who are resettling in Southern California as refugees.

Each November is Friendsgiving at Miry's List, when we ask people in our community to invite their friends over, share a meal, and raise money for our organization and families.  All funds raised go towards supporting Miry's List and new arrival resettling families in America. Last year, over 50 Friendsgiving gatherings took place throughout November and we raised over $30,000. This year we hope to meet and exceed last year's fundraising effort and our goal is $50,000.

USC's Beer Book Club - New Beginnings - Fundraiser for Miry's List

Who we are:
Kitchen Table is a social dining app that brings people together to share dining experiences, make meals accessible, easy, and memorable, and redefine what it means to eat local.

This gathering:
Welcome to the first Left Coast meeting of the Beer Book Club. This event is a great beer tasting, potluck, and dinner party all mashed into one. Here’s how it works: BBC meets on a semi-regular basis to share and taste some great beers. The potluck part is I pick a theme, and ya’ll bring some beers that match the theme (see below for the FAQ). I provide some snacks (feel free to bring your own to help supplement), I provide tasting knowledge (aka spout some BS about what I think the beer tastes like), and everyone has a ton of fun! This BBC’s theme is new beginnings.

Tickets are $5/person. Save your seat on Kitchen Table App: https://www.thekitchentableapp.com/meals/1565

FAQ:
The title includes the word “book.” Do I have to study beforehand?

No. There is no reading required. Just beer drinking. I’m going to have a personal tasting notebook, so feel free to bring (or start) yours too.

Who provides the beer?

We all do, it’s basically a tasting potluck. Bring enough beer for you, and if everyone does this, there’ll be plenty. If the beer you want to bring is sold in 6 packs, great! If it’s sold in 22oz bottles, also cool, bring some of those. Pre-chilled bottles are best, but if the bottle you want isn’t cold, we’ll find a way to fix that!
