Recently arrived from Jordan, the Alawad family—Mom, Dad, and their five children, ages 13 to 20—have started a new chapter in California. Dad worked in construction back in Syria, and Mom was a housewife. Now in the U.S., she is learning English at school alongside her children, who are excited to study and grow together in their new community.
