The Stanikzai family—parents Roya and Farid and their five children, ages two to fifteen—recently resettled in Virginia after fleeing Afghanistan. Farid served as a Close Protection Officer for USAID in Kabul, and Roya has devoted herself full-time to caring for their children. Both are now enrolled in local English-language classes as they work to build a new life here. Their energetic household is especially excited to celebrate their twin daughters’ birthday on June 11 each year. Mom has been the heart of the home and is now taking English classes to help her family thrive in their new environment.
