Haroon brings extensive experience in IT, while Layla has devoted herself full-time to nurturing their family. Both are eagerly building their language skills through local English classes to support their children’s success and integration into the community. The Stanikzai family—parents Roya and Farid and their five children, ages two to fifteen—recently resettled in Virginia after fleeing Afghanistan. Farid served as a Close Protection Officer for USAID in Kabul, and Roya has devoted herself full-time to caring for their children. Both are now enrolled in local English-language classes as they work to build a new life here. Their energetic household is especially excited to celebrate their twin daughters’ birthday on June 11 each year. Your support will help the Stanikzais as they navigate this transition, learn new skills, and lay down roots in their community.

Mom has been the heart of the home and is now taking English classes to help her family thrive in their new environment.
